Consumer Unit Upgrades
Guildford, Weybridge & Across Surrey
If your fuseboard’s looking a bit dated — or you’re not sure it’s safe — I can help. I’m Andy, a local NICEIC-registered electrician working across Guildford, Weybridge, Kingston-upon Thames, and surrounding parts of Surrey.
I specialise in upgrading old fuseboxes with modern, fully compliant consumer units that offer much better safety, protection, and peace of mind.
Why Might You Need a New Consumer Unit?
If your current board uses old-style fuses or has no RCD protection, it’s likely not meeting current electrical standards. You might need an upgrade if:
You’re having an EV charger or new circuit installed
You’re planning a rewire or extension
You’ve failed an EICR inspection
Or you just want to bring your electrics up to date
Modern consumer units provide better protection against electric shocks, fire risks, and faults — including RCBOs and surge protection as standard.
What’s Included in a Consumer Unit Upgrade?
Safe removal of your old fuseboard
New metal-clad 18th Edition-compliant consumer unit
RCBOs for individual circuit protection
Surge protection device (SPD) fitted as required
Full testing of all circuits before and after
Certification and Building Control notification via NICEIC
My Approach
I take pride in doing things properly — no shortcuts, no rush jobs. I’ll talk you through what’s needed, check all your existing wiring, and leave everything tidy, labelled, and properly signed off.
If needed, I’ll also upgrade meter tails, local bonding, or sort out any hidden faults that might not show up at first glance — but I’ll always explain things clearly and only recommend work that genuinely needs doing.
📍 Areas I Cover
I regularly carry out consumer unit upgrades in:
